Hey booklovers, come state? Agosto è iniziato, e ha portato con sè quella sensazione del dolce far nulla... che ammetto mi triggeri un pochino. Ho scelto di portarvi la recensione di un libro letto a inizio giugno, ma pienamente in mood di questo periodo... se solo mi fosse piaciuto.

Dopo Not In Love, un romanzo di Ali Hazelwood torna a non convincermi, casualità vuole che sia il diritto spin-off.

RECENSIONE:

Maya Kilgore ha una palessisima crush per Conor Harkness. Peccato che sia il migliore amico di suo fratello maggiore, Eli. Senza contare la differenza di ben quindici anni tra di loro.

Dunque, Maya non ha fatto altro che cercare di dimenticare. Una vacanza tutti insieme a Taormina non aiuta. Soprattutto quando è il matrimonio di Eli e Rue (i protagonisti di Not In Love). E quando si ritrovano letteralmente bloccati assieme. In un'atmosfera stra-romantica.

Cari booklovers, questa è la trama di PSR ridotta al minimo (o quasi). In realtà, è la trama più completa che posso darvi. Perché in questo libro mi è sembrato che non accadesse nulla per circa il 75% del tempo. Sono stati molti i momenti aesthetic e romantici... se solo avessi provato qualcosa.

Maya e Conor non sono male come personaggi, essi sono dei archetipi che mi sono già ben noti e che apprezzo molto nei romanzi (il brother's brooding BFF >>), ma che in questo caso non hanno fatto clic.

Ammetto che è difficile stendere questa recensione, perché non ho letteralmente nulla da criticare a tratti, è solo che questo libro è stato il nulla cosmico per me.

Buongiorno booklovers, come state' A breve arriverà la recensione di uno dei libri che si preannuncia fenomeno del 2025, ossia Rose In Chains, di Julie Soto, nato sulla piattaforma "Archive of Our Own" come fanfiction legata a Hermione Granger e Draco Malfoy della serie di Harry Potter.

I must admit, sono stata una Dramione shipper fin da quando avevo 14 anni, e diciamo che il trope redeemed bad boy x golden girl... beh, "it resonates with me".

In realtà, non è l'unica Dramione-inspired storia che salirà sugli scaffali. Qui sotto un piccolo spunto (e di più) se siete anche voi coinvolti da questi personaggi.

THE IRRESISTIBLE URGE TO FALL FOR YOUR ENEMY, DI BRIGITTE KNIGHTLEY

TRAMA:

1. Miglior libro letto nel 2025?

Sono rimasta colpita da Deep End, di Ali Hazelwood, uno sport romance molto spicy, così come ho pianto le lacrime del battesimo per Sunrise on The Reaping, di Suzanne Collins, Bellissimo.

 

2. Miglior sequel letto nel 2025?

Il continuo della Boys of Tommen (Saving 6, Redeeming 6 e Taming 7) continua a convincermi sempre di più.

3. Quale uscita attendi ancora di leggere?

Sto aspettando che mi arrivi "A Treachery of Swans", di A.B. Poranek, un retelling di "Il lago dei cigni", oltre che Releasing 10, la nuova uscita della Boys of Tommen.

4. Libri più anticipati della seconda metà del 2025?

Assolutamente Rose in Chains, di Julie Soto, oltre che Alchemised, di Sen Lin Yu (ovvero la versione editata della fanfiction Manacled).

5. Peggiore delusione del 2025?

Sono rimasta estremamente delusa da Problematic Summer Romance, di Ali Hazelwood, e purtroppo anche da Watch Me, di Tahereh Mafi (i Warnette + Kenji carried this book, sorry not sorry).

Nulla però eguaglia l'assoluto spreco di carta che si è rivelato essere... ONYX STORM, di Rebecca Yarros. Dei filler clamorosi che mi lasciano alquanto scioccata.

6. Migliore sorpresa del 2025?

Ho avuto una brutta esperienza con The Truth Untold di Rokia, e devo ringraziare la mia amica Anita per avermi spinta a leggere Sindrome, che è diventato uno dei miei libri preferiti dell'anno (letteralmente un pugno allo stomaco, ma merita tanto).

7. Autori che sono diventati un instant-buy per te?

Sto comprando tutti i libri di Ava Reid, e non me ne pento. Un'altra autrice che è decollata nei miei cuori non è stata altro che Emily Henry (sto leggendo attualmente People We Meet on Vacation and all i can say is... I'M IN LOVE.

Ultimamente, nonostante riconosco che sia considerata un'autrice problematica, sono finita nel tunnel dei libri di Rina Kent (la Royal Elite), i miei guilty pleasures.

Recensione | L' Amante Perduta di Shakespeare di Felicia Kingsley

Evaso dal carcere in cui era rinchiuso grazie all'aiuto di un generoso e astuto mentore, Nick si reinventa ancora una volta nei panni di ladro di opere d'arte su commissione. La sua cultura, il suo ingegno e l'indiscusso fascino sono preziosi sul campo e lo rendono sin da subito uno dei più desiderati del settore. Il primo committente che richiede i suoi servizi di “consulenza” è un ricco collezionista inglese di libri rari. Nick dovrà recuperare per lui una delle poche e ambite copie del First Folio di Shakespeare, che anni prima gli è stata soffiata con l'inganno da un barone-rivale. Ora che quest'ultimo è deceduto e i suoi beni sono passati al figlio, è il momento giusto per pareggiare i conti. Nick si reca così nella villa del barone sul Lago di Como per portare a termine la sua missione. Ha un piano preciso e accurato, solo che non ha messo in conto l'intromissione di Angelica, un'imprevista contendente all'eredità. Giovane, bellissima e impulsiva, Angelica è determinata a prendersi ciò che è suo e trascinare Nick nella soluzione di un enigma che potrebbe rivelarsi più grande di loro. E il ladro gentiluomo potrebbe trovarsi seriamente distratto dall'avvenente ereditiera... 

Un romanzo ricco di fascino e mistero, firmato da Felicia Kingsley. La prima missione di Nick Montecristo, l'amatissimo personaggio di Blake Avery, protagonista del bestseller "Due cuori in affitto".

RECENSIONE:

L'Amante Perduta di Shakespeare ha causato scalpore fin dal suo primissimo annuncio. Tutti conosciamo già Nick Montecristo, ladro gentiluomo, e la sua relazione con Silvye Coreau in "Prima Regola: Non Innamorarsi" non ha fatto altro che cementificare la sua presenza nel nostro cuore. Dunque, non sono stata sorpresa di vedere commenti quantomeno inquisitori nei confronti dell'autrice a seguito del fatto che in questo libro vi è una protagonista femminile diversa. Mi ha rattristrato purtroppo vedere come molte persone sono partite prevenute, ma partiamo dall'inizio con la trama.

Prima e dopo. Nick Montecristo non è mai stato lui. Il "prima" inizia in un penitenziario, dove un giovane Nick affronta le vicissitudini carcerarie, all'inizio con difficoltà, in seguito guidato da uno stesso suo collega di sventure "Farias" (gli easter egg dedicati a "Il Conte di Montecristo" di Alexandre Dumas sono molteplici, come questo dedicato all'Abbe Faria). Dopo un rocambolesco tentativo di evasione finito con successo, Nick si ritrova in un non meglio precisato convento guidato da una ex Navy SEAL (WTF), nonché a dover trattenere i bollenti spiriti innalzati dalla bellissima Suor Mary Agnes (un grandissimo scam, vi debbo dire).

Finito questo momento di training, Nick viene trasportato in Lussemburgo, dove ha inizio la sua storia.

Ed eccoci al dopo. Nick viene richiesto per un'operazione molto importante da un nobile inglese, che richiede il ritrovamento e custodia del "First Folio", l'opera omnia di William Shakespeare, sottratogli velocemente da un italiano anni prima.

Montecristo, con una nuova identità, viene gettato sul Lago di Como (il mio amato luogo natale) con l'obiettivo di recuperare il prezioso rilegato dal barone Martinis, che tra l'altro è recentemente deceduto.

Persuaso facilmente Roberto, il figlio avaro, Montecristo si ritrova coi piani letteralmente volati all'aria grazie a una figlia recentemente legittata di Martinis, la bellissima e volitiva Angelica. Di fatto, Nick si ritrova a bilanciare la ricerca con la crescente passione per Angelica e con un mistero che avvolge il libro stesso: e se William Shakespeare non fosse quello che sembra?

Tanta carne al fuoco, L'Amante perduta di Shakespeare è de facto una novella di Felicia Kingsley. Come al solito ho apprezzato lo stile di scrittura scorrevole, fluido e divertente, una penna da chick-lit, che caratterizza con cura i suoi personaggi principali.

Lo charme di Nick Montecristo è indiscutibile, così come ho apprezzato ampiamente il personaggio di Angelica. Temevo di cadere nei "bias cognitivi", data la nota esistenza del romanzo principale e precisamente della nostra eroina Silvye Coreau, tuttavia ho ampiamente apprezzato la ragazza decisa, caparbia e motivata da giustizia.

I problemi che ho riscontrato tuttavia sono decisamente altri, più che alto basati sulla trama e sullo sviluppo di essa. Ho trovato le sezioni estremamente scollegate e fini a sé stesse, con un'enfasi dedicata principalmente a alcuni personaggi nella fase "UNO" (il Prima)... che letteralmente scompaiono e la cui importanza sicuramente mi ha lasciata perplessa, visto che non vi è stato seguito a dato risalto (principalmente Suor Mary Agnes/Angel... su cui io ho una teoria a cui non è stata data conferma).

La trama in sé è stata carina ma inconcludente; non ho trovato un finale sensato, che considero la parte più debole del romanzo, e la stessa esecuzione ha trovato il tempo che trovava. Non mi ha detto un granché e non mi ha lasciato molto.

La parte mystery, che ho capito subito dove parasse, è stata godibile. Forse un po' troppo pindarica.

Alla fine, lo ritengo un libro carino, ma facilmente dimenticabile.

Buondì booklovers, il giorno è giunto. L'alba sulla Mietitura è finalmente sorta, e posso parlarvi delle mie impressioni sul prequel di Hunger Games dedicato a uno dei quattro vincitori del Distretto 12, Haymitch Abernathy.

RECENSIONE:

In un futuro Nord America sconquassato da guerre, catastrofi nucleari e disastri naturali, è sorta una nuova Nazione: Panem. Una Capitale e 13 Distretti, che poi si ribellano contro Capitol City.

L'incipit lo conosciamo tutti. 

SOTR è narrato dal PoV di Haymitch, 24 anni prima di Katniss Everdeen e degli eventi in HG. Il primo capitolo si apre col suo sedicesimo compleanno, il giorno della Mietitura. La Collins ci narra di nuovo la vita quotidiana nel 12 tramite Haymitch, la sua famiglia (madre e l'adorato fratellino Sid), i suoi amici, principalmente un ragazzo di nome Burdock... Everdeen e la fidanzata, Lenore Dove... Baird.

Già in questi primi capitoli possiamo apprezzare come i personaggi si leghino tutti ai libri scritti precedentemente. Abbiamo infatti i cameo dei genitori di Katniss (e di Peeta Mellark), ma anche di nuovo uno sguardo sulla grande famiglia dei Covey, ormai ridotta a pochi membri, su cui aleggia ancora lo spettro di Lucy Gray e del suo amore col giovane Coriolanus Snow, ormai Presidente (dittatore) di Panem.

SOTR penso sia stata una grandissima risposta da parte di Suzanne Collins ai millemila edit di "Snow lands on top" (sono colpevole anche io LOL): la Capitale raggiunge un livello di brutalità esplicitamente descritta che ti rivolta lo stomaco. Bambini coinvolti.

Ed è già da come Haymitch viene illegalmente scelto come Tributo che capiamo come questo libro ci distruggerà tutti.

Gli Hunger Games di Haymitch sono i 50esimi, un'Edizione della Memoria: i Distretti vengono puniti due volte, mandando il doppio dei Tributi. 48 ragazzi mandati al macello.

Per il 12, oltre a Hay, sono scelti Wyatt, un giovane ragazzo posato e riflessivo, Louella McCoy, una ragazzina di 13 anni, la Rue di Haymitch, e la "vipera" Maysilee Donner, una delle più ricche ragazze in città, nonché zia di Madge Undersee, migliore amica di Katniss in THG.

Costellati di easter eggs e di cameo (tra cui quello di una giovanissima Effie Trinket), ha inizio il viaggio nella 50esima edizione, in cui amati personaggi - con le loro tragiche storie - fanno capolino.

Il 12 non ha vincitori in vita, dunque gli vengono assegnati mentori da altri distretti. Quando Mags e Wiress hanno fatto il loro arrivo mi si è spezzato il cuore, così come per la tragica storia che lega Beetee (anch'egli presente nel libro) alla storia.

Il presidente Snow si dimostra in tutto il suo essere spietato tanto che per punire Beetee per delle sue azioni ribelli fa mietere il figlio di lui, Ampert, dodici anni.

Tutte le Mietiture sono punizioni. Alla fine non c'è nessun vincitore negli HG, e molti iniziano a morire anche prima. Limitando gli spoiler, un personaggio viene ucciso in un incidente prima dell'inizio dei Giochi e viene rimpiazzato da un suo simil-clone che è stato rapito dal suo Distretto, torturato e modificato in modo da assomigliare al defunto.

Ho i brividi solo a scrivere questa frase. 

Tutto mette i brividi, e penso sia anche il motivo che mi ha inquietato nella scelta del design dell'arena. Quel luogo è paradisiaco, bellissimo. Ma completamente velenoso. I fiori, i frutti, gli animali, talmente belli quanto mutati e distruttivi.

Tra questo orrore la Collins riesce a far esaltare l'umano ancora una volta, nei rapporti tra i Tributi, che formano una grande coalizione contro i "Favoriti". Ragazzini piccoli e spaventati, ma tanto grandi nell'animo.

Non si può dire lo stesso del Presidente Snow, che emerge in tutta la sua piccolezza e nei suoi sotterfugi. Ho trovato le scene molto interessanti, soprattutto perché connotate dalla presenza del suo assistente... un giovane Plutarch Heavensbee, che giocherà un ruolo fondamentale come talpa della Ribellione.

Alla fine rimane solo lui, Haymitch. Ha perso tutto, e tutti, punito anch'egli dalla Capitale. Non è un vincitore. La scena finale con Lenore Dove ha un che di particolarmente terrificante, nonostante lei come personaggio non mi abbia parlato così tanto come altri, ad esempio la fiera Maysilee, il piccolo Ampert e suo padre, i precedenti vincitori.

L'universo di Hunger Games continuerà sempre a parlarmi.

Buongiorno booklovers, come state? Oggi mi ritrovo a scrivere una recensione per un libro che letteralmente mi ha fatta andare fuori di testa. Si tratta del nuovo fenomeno di Bookstagram "The Favorites", di Layne Fargo.

Quando incontra Heath Rocha, un ragazzo orfano, silenzioso e solitario, tra i due nasce istantaneamente un'intesa profonda, che li renderà una coppia formidabile sul ghiaccio e nella vita. Aggrappati al pattinaggio per sfuggire alle loro esistenze problematiche e riscrivere il proprio futuro, Kat e Heath scalano in fretta la strada che li conduce da giovani promesse a inarrestabili campioni di danza su ghiaccio. Belli, sfacciati e senza paura di mostrare la passione che li unisce anche in pista, i due giovani conquistano il pubblico con la chimica dei loro corpi, uno stile ribelle e una relazione da montagne russe. 

Fino a quando un incidente scioccante alle Olimpiadi di Sochi mette improvvisamente fine alla loro storia. 

Con l'avvicinarsi del decimo anniversario dall'ultima esibizione, un documentario non autorizzato riaccende l'ossessione per Kat e Heath, promettendo di svelare cosa sia realmente accaduto tra di loro. Kat non vuole avere nulla a che fare con il documentario, ma non può sopportare l'idea che qualcun altro pretenda di definire la verità al posto suo. Così, dopo un decennio di silenzio, decide di raccontare la sua dalle tragedie d'infanzia che hanno saldato quel legame totalizzante tra lei e Heath, fino agli scontri e alle incomprensioni che li hanno portati a separarsi. 

Cosa siamo disposti a sacrificare per inseguire un sogno?

Alternando il punto di vista di Katarina e i frammenti delle interviste con gli amici più stretti e i rivali più accaniti, The Favorites racconta i risvolti più morbosi dell'amore - che sia per una persona o uno sport - quando si trasforma in ossessione. Una storia travolgente, ambientata nel mondo scintillante e feroce del pattinaggio agonistico.

RECENSIONE:

Il primo amore di Katarina Shaw non è stato Heath Rocha. Era il pattinaggio sul ghiaccio.

 Appena morta sua madre, la piccolissima Kat ritrova un barlume di luce attaccandosi al mito della grande pattinatrice Sheila Lin, che battaglia a colpi di lame sul ghiaccio la sua nemesi, la sovietica Veronika Volkova. Siamo a fine anni '80.

Da lì, il romanzo dettaglia il primo incontro tra i protagonisti Kat e Heath, le loro prime competizioni, lo scontro con lo sfavillante mondo della famiglia Lin - oltre a Sheila, i gemelli Garrett e Isabella - le competizioni, i dolori, fino a culminare al tragico incidente di Sochi 2014, su cui rimaniamo all'oscuro fino alla fine.

The Favorites, con una struttura non-lineare, intermezzata da interviste di vari personaggi e report da documentari, copre oltre trent'anni di storia, competizioni e di vita dei protagonisti. 

Ho trovato forti assonanze nei toni con la serie TV Spinning Out, che parla effettivamente di pattinaggio e della sete di vincere, oltre che un mix tra Gossip Girl e Pretty Little Liars per le menzogne e le cospirazioni

Passando ai personaggi, non si può parlare di Kat senza parlare di Heath. Kat è il primo amore di Heath e lo rimarrà sempre. Orfano dalle origini oscure che ha cambiato molte famiglie, il ragazzino si innamora di Kat vedendola pattinare. Da lì nasce il loro sodalizio e rapporto, formato da passione e ossessione, che viene ostacolato da una fortissima mancanza di comunicazione e da una sete di vittorie e orgoglio.

Kat e Heath non sono una coppia bilanciata. A essere sinceri, anche i nomi e i parallelismi mi ricordano a tratti Catherine Earnshaw e Heathcliff di Wuthering Heights, non conosciuti esattamente per le loro green flags. Tuttavia, la loro passione è così cruda da essermi arrivata come una folata di vento gelido in faccia.

Bella e Garrett Lin sono l'opposto. Posati, gelidi, ma che nascondono il magma che ribolle sotto. Non posso dire effettivamente di essere stata una fan dei Lin dati i casini che causano, come la famiglia Linton in WH (soprattutto una plot-line finale riguardante Bella Lin mi ha... fatta esplodere come un vulcano), ma essi possiedono nel loro gruppo penso il personaggio più interessante (a livello critico) del romanzo, la matriarca Sheila Lin.

Se dovessi affidarle un animale, direi una vipera. Silenziosa, e non te la aspetti quando ti avvelena. Penso che il suo ruolo mostri quanto grigio può essere un essere umano, perchè le sue scelte le disprezzi moralmente ma allo stesso tempo ti ritrovi a capirle perché è logico e coerente.

Potrei continuare a elencare altri personaggi, come la moralmente grigissima Francesca Gaskell, che parla a tutte le ragazze che non vogliono più essere la seconda scelta e a cosa possono spingersi, oppure Ellis Dean, il caotico personaggio secondario, un po' crudele ma che alla fine ti sostiene... per il suo tornaconto.

Il ruolo del pattinaggio non è assolutamente marginale. Potrei quasi dire che è Il Personaggio, il vero protagonista del romanzo. Gli umani sono solo figurine che si muovono in base al dio pattinaggio.

Questo romanzo è stato mindblowing, in tutti i sensi, e data la sua scorrevolezza mi è risultato facilissimo leggerlo... in un attimo.

A forced collaboration ensues: the brilliant Woman in STEM is coerced into working with the PhD in Murders, much to Aurienne's disgust. As Osric and Aurienne work together to heal his illness and investigate the mysterious reoccurrence of a deadly pox, they find themselves ardently denying their attraction, which only fuels the heat between them.

RECENSIONE - ENG:

First in a slow-burn duology, this novel follows the building relationship between two mortal enemies in a strange fantasy world. Aurienne Fairhrim, a scholar from the Haelan (Healer) Order, is serious, precise and does not really want to hear anything about Fyren, a Dusken Order of assassins. 

Unfortunately for her, a plague pox is ravaging into the younger part of population, and research needs a lot of money. Money Osric Mordaunt, one of the deadliest Fyren (and well-known idiot), has and uses to bribe Aurienne into trying to heal his neurodegenerative disease (his seith - his magic - will vanish for him to be subsequently killed by his Order for being mortal).

They are not exaclty cooperative. They are also idiots who refuse to acknoledge they're falling for each other...

I've already known Brigitte Knightley for Draco Malfoy & The Mortyfing Ordeal of Being in Love, which I loved, hence why I screamed when I saw my request was approved.

I fell in love with the magical setting, as Knightley created a world which is heavily layered in magic (and the Old Ways Osric & Aurienne are trying to recall) but also in our real world. I loved watching sad phenomena in modern times being used in the book, such as bioterrorism and a kind of biological warfare, which I'm sure it will be adeguately explained in the sequel.

And I fell in love with the MCs too. Aurienne (our Hermione) was probably more strict and serious that I'd expected, probably because Knightley was so good at describing her inner difense mode. It felt raw and real, the way Aurienne shuts down to protect herself.

As for Osric (Draco)... he's so damn stupid I love him. I love blonde smart-but-kind-of-stupid boys (even in real life), so maybe I'm being partial. He's drama queen and unserious but also caring and cunning when needed.

I know it's a slow burn, but I need the fireworks!

I can't wait to read the next installment.

RECENSIONE - ITA:

Primo libro in una dilogia romantasy slow-burn, questo romanzo segue la storia d'amore nascente tra due nemici mortali in un mondo fantasy avvolto dal mistero.

Aurienne Fairhrim è una studiosa che appartiene all'Ordine degli Haelan (Healer -> guaritrice), che seguono la "Bright Path". Seria, severa e (un botto) repressa, non sopporta nemmeno la minima menzione dell'Ordine avverso agli Haelan, i Fyren (che potremmo definire come una Gilda di Assassini), uno dei cosiddetti "Dusken Orders".

Purtroppo per lei, una forte peste sconosciuta, che colpisce solo bambini e adolescenti, sta esplodendo e mietendo vittime in tutto il territorio. Aurienne sa benissimo che serve denaro per la ricerca. Denaro che sicuramente Osric Mordaunt, uno dei più letali (quanto stupidi) Fyren, possiede benissimo.

Non ci vuole tanto prima che Osric "ricatti" col denaro Aurienne per obbligarla a cercare una cura nelle Vecchie Vie per la sua malattia degenerativa (il decadimento del suo "seith", fonte della magia).

I due non sono esattamente cooperativi. Sono anche talmente idioti che tentano di negare di essersi innamorati l'uno dell'altra.

Conoscevo già B. Knightley per aver letto la sua fanfiction "Draco Malfoy & The Mortyfing Ordeal of Being in Love" (sono una Dramione shipper e non me ne pento, anche nella vita reale cado per le red flag), quindi potete benissimo capire quanto abbia urlato quando ho visto la mia richiesta su Netgalley approvata.

Mi sono innamorata dell'ambientazione, poiché Knightley ha saputo creare un mondo che è pesantemente ispirato dal folklore (come le "Old Ways" che Osric e Aurienne stanno cercando) ma anche dal nostro mondo reale. 

Ho adorato vedere fenomeni tristi dei tempi moderni posti in chiave fantasy, come il bioterrorismo e una plot-line che sa molto di guerra biologica, che sono sicura saranno adeguatamente spiegati e approfonditi nel seguito.

E mi sono innamorata anche dei personaggi. Aurienne (la nostra Hermione) era probabilmente più severa e seria di quanto mi aspettassi. Brigitte è stata così brava a descrivere la sua modalità di difesa interiore. Il risultato è stato così crudo e reale riguardo il modo in cui Aurienne si chiude a riccio per proteggersi che non ho potuto fare altro che comprendere ed empatizzare con lei.

Quanto a Osric (Draco)... è così dannatamente stupido che lo adoro. Adoro i ragazzi biondi intelligenti ma anche un po' stupidi (forse nella vita reale), quindi "forse" sono di parte. È una drama queen assurda per essere un assassino, e anche alquanto poco serio, ma  premuroso e astuto quando serve.

Necessito i fuochi d'artificio tra i due al più presto. So che è stato uno slow burn, ma I NEED MOOOREEE (E IL SEQUEL).

Buongiorno booklovers, come state? Oggi ho pensato per voi di fare un piccolo sum-up dei libri di un'autrice molto conosciuta, soprattutto sul mondo BookTok, ovvero Emily Henry.
