RECENSIONE:
Ci troviamo a Londra, nel 1828: il giovane Robin Swift, rimasto orfano della famiglia a Canton a causa del colera, viene portato nella città inglese per essere educato in Latino, Greco e Cinese, tutto per poi essere accettato a Babel, la divisione di traduzione di Oxford.
Babel è centro anche di magia, che permette all'Impero Britannico di espandersi. Tuttavia, Robin viene assalito dai dubbi quando incontra la Hermes Society, e si rende conto che seguire Oxford così sia uguale a tradire la sua madrepatria.
Quindi, la domanda è: "Le istituzioni potenti possono essere cambiate da dentro, o è necessaria violenza?"
Babel è un libro molto divisivo, anzi, oserei dire ESTREMAMENTE divisivo. Una particolare recensione di una mia collega tedesca ha causato molto sdegno nel BookTok e nel Bookstagram.
Io questo libro l'ho amato, ma sono d'accordo su un punto: molto spesso leggiamo il punto di vista della Kuang, inserito nei personaggi. Questo è forse l'unico difetto che posso trovare in questo meraviglioso libro.
Robin e tutti gli altri personaggi mi sono piaciuti (sì, anche Letty), lo stile della Kuang è superbo, ricco ma soprattutto crudo.
Non è un libro per tutti; valutate bene come e se leggerlo!
