Top Five (al contrario) | Worst Books of 2023

Buongiorno booklovers, so che il Blue Monday sarebbe settimana prossima, ma per me è questo il vero Blue Monday. Il primo lunedì di gennaio (e quindi il primo lunedì dell'anno) era il mio trauma del liceo, e delle medie, e delle elementari. Della mia vita, insomma.

E per restare in pessimo "mood", ecco a voi la Top Five dei libri "meh e mah".

5. THE RED SCHOLAR'S WAKE, di Aliette DeBodard

TRAMA:

Xích Si: bot maker, data analyst, mother, scavenger. But those days are over now-her ship has just been captured by the Red Banner pirate fleet, famous for their double-dealing and cruelty. Xích Si expects to be tortured to death-only for the pirates' enigmatic leader, Rice Fish, to arrive with a different and shocking proposition: an arranged marriage between Xích Si and herself.

COSA NE PENSO? Uno sci-fi che mi ha annoiata e che è stato confusionario al massimo.

4. BADLANDS, di Stefania S. 

TRAMA:

Juliet ha diciassette anni e si è appena trasferita nella casa del nuovo compagno della madre, dove vive anche il figlio di lui, Alexander, un ragazzo bellissimo e dallo sguardo tormentato. Già dal primo incontro la relazione tra Juliet e Alexander si rivela più complicata del previsto: lui è scontroso e arrogante. Nei giorni seguenti le cose peggiorano: i ragazzi frequentano la stessa scuola, e Alex non si fa sfuggire l'occasione di prenderla in giro per i suoi risultati scolastici. Quando i brutti voti in fisica e la paura di una punizione spingono Juliet a cercare di corrompere il professore, Alex la vede e minaccia di spifferare tutto alla madre. Juliet è furibonda, ma la resa dei conti con quel secchione dagli occhi di ghiaccio è ormai vicina… anzi è già cominciata, ed è una guerra fino all'ultimo respiro...

COSA NE PENSO? Alexander Ackerman, vade retro. Un libro estremamente filler, dove non succede nulla e dove non c'è l'introspezione necessaria a salvare il libro.

3. CHAIN OF THORNS, di Cassandra Clare

TRAMA:

COSA NE PENSO? Già da CoI avevo capito che The Last Hours stava andando "downhill", ma non ero preparata a questo orrore in carta.

2. STIGMA, di Erin Doom

TRAMA:

Certi amori ci restano addosso. Come una cicatrice.  La protagonista di questa storia non crede più nei miracoli. Troppe volte la vita l’ha masticata e risputata, illudendola che un futuro scintillante fosse in serbo per lei. Da sola e senza mezzi, Mireya decide di trasferirsi a Philadelphia in cerca di fortuna. Con sé ha soltanto una vecchia valigia, intorno l’inverno gelido di una città sconosciuta. Il suo personale miracolo sembra compiersi quando si imbatte in un’insegna al neon che si staglia nel buio della notte. Eccentrico e sfarzoso, il club Milagro’s è un luogo capace di affascinare chiunque ne varchi la soglia, Mireya compresa. Con l’ostinazione di chi non ha niente da perdere, la ragazza riesce a farsi assumere come barista. Il Milagro’s, però, è più di un locale esclusivo. Dietro le sue porte chiuse, oltre i lustrini e le luci di scena, si intrecciano destini e sussurrano segreti. I più oscuri si condensano tutti nel viso aspro e incantevole di Andras, il capo della sicurezza. Fra Mireya e Andras è odio a prima vista. Entrambi portano sulla pelle gli stessi segni, hanno addosso il marchio di chi ha dovuto imparare a lottare per sopravvivere. Eppure i due continuano a imbattersi l’uno nell’altra, come attirati da una forza misteriosa che non sanno né possono contrastare, stretti da un filo dorato più forte di un destino.

COSA NE PENSO? Penso che io e Erin Doom non ci troviamo proprio, e che proverò a leggere il sequel solo per vedere come va a finire.
