When the candidates are recruited by the mysterious Atlas Blakely, they are told they must spend one year together to qualify for initiation. During this time, they will be permitted access to the Society’s archives and judged on their contributions to arcane areas of knowledge. Five, they are told, will be initiated. One will be eliminated. If they can prove themselves to be the best, they will survive. Most of them.
RECENSIONE:
The Atlas Six era una storia che mi interessava molto, ma purtroppo ritengo sia stata mal eseguita. Vediamo insieme il perché.
Il worldbuilding è stata un'idea spettacolare: abbiamo questa società segreta di "maghi" (anche se non li definirei così), The Alexandrian Society, che cura i segreti più antichi della storia, sotto forma di biblioteca. Essi reclutano per ogni generazione cinque maghi molto promettenti, unici nel loro genere, che possano adempiere a questo compito e unirsi alla società segreta.
E poi ci sono sei protagonisti; Libby e Nico, due super rivali, che sanno manipolare la materia con la mente; Reina, una naturalista (controlla le piante); Parisa, che legge nella mente; Tristan, il figlio di un signore della malavita, che ha un potere molto particolare, e Callum, un ragazzo sudafricano che ha il potere dell'empatia.
Questi sei vengono reclutati da Atlas Blakely, che li informa che debbano restare un anno insieme per arrivare all'iniziazione. Solo cinque verranno scelti. Uno eliminato. Sopravvivranno solo se dimostreranno di essere il meglio.
Il punto d'inizio era meraviglioso. Peccato che sia stato mal eseguito. Primo problema: la trama. Purtroppo fa buchi da tutte le parti, ci sono errori e incongruenze. Secondo: lo stile e i PoV (Point of View). Sono troppi e ho avuto la sensazione di essere sballottata dappertutto. Terzo: i personaggi.
Senza entrare negli spoiler, mi sono piaciuti a metà. La mia preferita è Libby, che mi ricorda molto me stessa, ma anche Nico e Reina non sono male. Mi piacciono. Per quanto riguarda gli altri tre, Tristan si è visto poco, mentre Parisa e Callum li ho detestati.
Lo stile della Blake è troppo acerbo, ha bisogno di un editor serio.
Leggerò il secondo libro? Sì, perché voglio vedere dove va a parare
