Down the TBR Hole #1

 Salve a tutti cari booklovers, oggi abbiamo un post alquanto particolare... ho preso il mio scaffale TBR (To Be Read, ovvero Da Leggere) di Goodreads, il social dei lettori (mi trovate come Persephone - the.bookish.scorpio) e ho spulciato un po' di titoli... ho preso 5 serie che volevo leggere e ho deciso se depennarle o no!

ELIMINATI:

Guarda caso sono tutti dark romance... sarà stato l'effetto degli insulti presi a luglio dalle fan accanite di dark romance?

- Black Dynasty Series di Marilena Barbagallo

Le premesse erano anche interessanti, ma il fatto che i primi due libri, incentrati su Taurus e Venus, hanno dei flashback dove la lei quattordicenne tenta di sedurlo e lui ha 30 anni (14 ANNI... sebbene non succeda nulla, mi puzza tanto di PEDOFILIA) mi hanno fatto passare la voglia di leggere i restanti.

Inoltre non sono una fan della Barbagallo come stile (ho letto Stuck della ROMC) e le scene sono troppo spicy.

Depennato...

- Never After Series di Emily McIntire

Anche qui, retelling interessanti, ma ho visto pareri poco lusinghieri e il fatto che molti giustifichino le violenze dei cosiddetti "cattivi" mi fa imbestialire...

Direi che evitiamo...

- Monsters & Muses di Sav R. Miller

Anche qui un dark romance ambientato nel mondo della mafia... fer molestando che la mafia NON è una cosa sexy, è orrenda, lo avevo aggiunto per le belle copertine, molto colorate e discrete, e perchè è un retelling di Ade e Persefone, in generale la serie dei miti greci.

Ma visto che è mafia e dark, non ho voglia di ingaggiarmi in libri che mi fanno già schifo prima della partenza.

RESTANO:

- Gemma Doyle di Libba Bray

Gemma Doyle è ambientato negli Anni Ruggenti, inoltre ci sono scene fantasy, romance e storiche... potevo non tenerlo?

- Bloodlines di Richelle Mead

Ho amato Vampire Academy, e sebbene adori anche Dimitri, non mi è andato giù come Rose ha trattato Adrian, quindi ho urlato quando ho visto che c'era uno spin-off su lui e Sydney...

 QUINDI RESTA, PUNTO.

Recensione | If we were villains di M.L. Rio

 Ciao a tutti booklovers, oggi recensione di un "classico" del genere Dark Academia, ovvero If We Were Villains, di M.L. Rio.

TRAMA:

Oliver Marks has just served ten years in jail - for a murder he may or may not have committed. On the day he's released, he's greeted by the man who put him in prison. Detective Colborne is retiring, but before he does, he wants to know what really happened a decade ago.

As one of seven young actors studying Shakespeare at an elite arts college, Oliver and his friends play the same roles onstage and off: hero, villain, tyrant, temptress, ingenue, extra. But when the casting changes, and the secondary characters usurp the stars, the plays spill dangerously over into life, and one of them is found dead. The rest face their greatest acting challenge yet: convincing the police, and themselves, that they are blameless.

RECENSIONE:

Oliver Marks è un appassionato di teatro, studente ad un college d'elite. Lui e i suoi sette amici eseguono i loro ruoli alla perfezione anche al di fuori del teatro. Ma purtroppo, o per fortuna, piano piano il casting cambia, e la piece teatrale inizia a strabordare nella vita reale, cosa che porterà, questa volta purtroppo, ad un omicidio.

Oliver viene giudicato colpevole, e il ragazzo finisce dieci anni in prigione. Il detective che lo ha arrestato, alla sua uscita di prigione, vuole davvero sapere che cosa è successo quella notte di dieci anni prima...

Comincia così un libro che mi ha stregata. If we were villains aveva tutte le carte in regola per piacermi, e lo ha fatto degnamente. Su una cosa non sono d'accordo, ed è la caratterizzazione di alcuni personaggi, soprattutto Meredith, la "tentatrice", che viene fin troppo sessualizzata, e la cui complessità non è stata sfruttata al meglio.

Per il resto, lo stile della Rio mi è piaciuto molto, mi ha ricordato Donna Tartt e Dio di Illusioni.

Consigliato dai: 17 anni
