RECENSIONE:

Ci troviamo in un futuro non specificato, dove umani e Lunari (alieni dalla Luna, o meglio, umani trapiantati sulla Luna con poteri) convivono... non in pace. Infatti, una piaga lunare, la Letumosi, imperversa sul pianeta, uccidendo molte persone. I Lunari, guidati dalla perfida Regina Levana, attendono di vedere i nemici indeboliti per conquistarli.

Ci troviamo nel Commonwealth asiatico, a Nuova Pechino: lì vive Linh Cinder, una giovane cyborg, molto preparata in meccanica, vessata dalla sorellastra e dalla matrigna. Quando al mercato incontra il principe Kai, figlio dell'Imperatore Rikan, la ragazza non crede ai suoi occhi. Essendo un cyborg, è ritenuta cittadina di Serie B, ed è sconvolta quando il principe si interessa a lei. 

I due formano un'amicizia, nascosta alla matrigna Adri. Le uniche amiche che ha sono Iko, una robottina, e la sorellastra Peony, di quattordici anni. Quando Peony muore per la letumosi, Cinder viene venduta per sperimentazione sulla malattia.

Ma è immune, come i Lunari.

Cosa nasconde Cinder?

Questa moderna fiaba mi ha conquistata: nonostante le tante pagine, ho letto con piacere questo romanzo, un retelling di Cenerentola in salsa asiatica. In più, ci sono gli alieni e i cyborg, cosa vuoi di più?

I personaggi mi sono tutti piaciuti e mi sono sembrati coerenti con il loro ruolo (a parte Kai, che è un po' tonto per essere un principe). 

Non vedo l'ora di continuare con Scarlet, il secondo, perché il finale è troppo aperto e io vorrei sapere...

RECENSIONE:

Sappiamo tutti cosa è successo. Poppy ha scoperto che Hawke non è altro che Casteel Da'Neer, il principe degli Atlantian, una specie simile ai vampiri (Atlantide + vampiri = I'm in) e che suo fratello Ian è Asceso.

Poppy lo sta cercando, ma purtroppo si ritrova ad affidarsi a Casteel per trovarlo. L'attrazione tra i due non è del tutto svanita, anzi, e Poppy si ritrova a scoprire tante cose, anche su sé stessa, che non avrebbe mai immaginato.

Mentre sta per scoppiare una guerra, e tutte le varie fazioni si rivoltano contro Poppy, che cosa farà la nostra eroina? E soprattutto, che cosa farà nei confronti di Cas?

Questo libro è stato troppo. In positivo. La verità è che il finale del primo libro mi ha dato un colpo pesante, e quindi non vedevo l'ora di continuare. Ma questo libro è migliore del primo, decisamente. (Poi dal terzo è tutto un disastro, ma fa niente)

Lo stile non risulta pesante, anche se è un mattone di libro, e le pagine scorrono con piacere, lasciandoti la voglia di continuare. Scopriamo cose su Poppy che io sinceramente non immaginavo, anche se il suo vero nome (Penellaphe, Poppy è un soprannome) dava un suggerimento. Il finale è shock, peggio del primo, e non so cosa dire. 

Leggete subito il terzo, se potete.

RECENSIONE:

Signori, la verità è che mi stava piacendo. Non un libro della vita, ma una lettura tranquilla e interessante.

E poi... è arrivata quella frase. Ma partiamo con ordine.

Bridget Von Ascheberg è una principessa. Spera di poter vivere libera, anche se è praticamente obbligata a un matrimonio di convenienza, a causa del suo ruolo, e soprattutto al trono, dato il fatto che suo fratello ha abdicato. Rhys Larsen è il suo bodyguard. Entrambi si sono innamorati.

Mi sono piaciuti i personaggi principali, soprattutto Bridget. La sua simpatia e voglia di libertà è contagiosa, e l'ho percepita un personaggio molto "tridimensionale". Rhys mi stava piacendo...

E qui arriviamo al punto.

La frase. Ve la traduco io.

"In pubblico sei la mia principessa. In privato, sei la mia p..."

Io, miei cari, sono I-N-O-R-R-I-D-I-T-A.

Nessun uomo può permettersi di chiamarmi così, e secondo, io non sono la p... di nessuno.

Io sono io, e valgo. Punto.

Per questo mi sentivo male a continuare il libro, e sono stata male di stomaco nel continuare a leggerlo.

Hence, direbbero gli inglesi, il mio rating.

Se amate questi trope, leggetelo. Ma se siete delle femministe sfegatate, come me, NO.

RECENSIONE:

Prima di essere criticata, ci tengo a fare una premessa: sapevo a cosa andavo incontro. Sapevo che era 18 +, sapevo che era spicy, sapevo che l'eroe era possessivo (una cosa che io aborro).

Sapevo tutto.

Eppure questo libro è riuscito a sorprendermi. Visto quello a cui andavo incontro, pensavo già di darlo nelle Recensioni Trash ™️, invece, come potete vedere, non è dentro.

Riconosco ad Ana Huang la grande capacità di tenerti attaccato alle pagine, e di creare una storia accattivante. Ho adorato Ava Chen e le sue amiche, Bridget, Jules e Stella. Ho riso grazie a Josh Chen.

Cosa non ha funzionato? Beh, direi Alex Volkov.

Alex è tutto quello che non vorrei in un uomo. Quindi vedere Ava innamorarsi di lui mi ha fatto abbastanza male. Per quanto tu possa aver sofferto, non c'è giustificazione al male che fai. Vorrei che passasse questo messaggio.

Still hyped up per Twisted Games, che sembra essere un royal romance!

Ho finito di leggere Twisted Games, che mi sarebbe piaciuto se non per quella frase; Bones & All di Camille DeAngelis, di cui non so cosa pensare e infine Catherine House di Elisabeth Thomas, una lettura a dir poco deludente.

 Salve a tutti booklovers, oggi per la rubrica Feeling Bookish andremo a parlare di un altro negozio di candele... sto parlando di Dreamy Candles Store, un negozio virtuale Etsy che mi ha letteralmente fatto dire WOW.

STORIA: 

Dreamy Candles nasce dall'idea di Emma, amante dei libri fantasy e romance. Qui potete trovare tantissime candele, ispirate non solo a personaggi dei libri, ma anche alla mitologia e a luoghi, oltre a candele dedicate agli amanti dei libri (Fantasy Reader, Romance Reader... vi dicono qualcosa?)

L'OFFERTA:

Dreamy Candles offre tantissime candele in misura 4oz, con restock praticamente mensili, oltre a una pratica che vi spiegherò dopo, che io ritengo geniale.

Le etichette e il packaging sono fantastici, a partire dalle scatole, decorate personalmente da Emma stessa e personalizzate in base all'acquirente. Per quanto riguarda l'aspetto delle candele, vi assicuro che non potrete dire altro che... WOW.

Colori misti e vivaci; forme e glitter che impreziosiscono il risultato... se siete amanti del bello, questo negozio fa per voi.

LE MIE CANDELE:

Possiedo varie candele di Dreamy Candles, una delle quali è la mia preferita in assoluto... ovvero Romance Reader, con un profumo di biscotti, colore ed etichetta rosa, oltre ad essere a forma di rosa.

Le altre che possiedo sono Cordelia (Shadowhunters); Nico DiAngelo (PJ); Ofelia (La Passe-Mirroir);  Lo Schiaccianoci e la Regina delle Nevi, tutte con profumi spettacolari e con packaging favoloso.

LE CANDELE ESAURITE:

Penso sappiate quanto sia difficile trovare le profumazioni nell'arco del tempo, quindi Emma ha creato un sistema (Geniale) per ordinare candele esaurite... ovvero farle con la stessa etichetta, ma profumazioni diverse!

Salve a tutti cari booklovers, oggi post un po' più chiacchericcio e in tema Instagram. Infatti, per quanto mi riguarda, parteciperò alla sfida di Bookish Games a tema "Back To School".

Come ve la cavate con le interrogazioni? Qui abbiamo alcune materie obbligatorie che bisogna passare:

Abbiamo però una piccola novità: tutti siamo portati per una speciale disciplina, quindi avrete la possibilità UNA sola volta durante la sfida di sostituire una materia obbligatoria con una extra. Usatela con saggezza!

Recensione | Love on the brain di Ali Hazelwood (ENG)

 Ciao a tutti booklovers, oggi parleremo di "Love on the brain" di Ali Hazelwood, che come ben sapete non mi ha fatto impazzire con The Love Hypothesis. Sarà riuscita a farmi cambiare idea?

But when it comes time to actually make a move and put her heart on the line, there's only one question that matters: What will Bee Königswasser do?

RECENSIONE:

Sì. Finalmente. Anche io ho capito come funzionano i romanzi di Ali Hazelwood. Lo so che è praticamente una copia di TLH. Lo so che Levi è Adam, e che Bee è la stessa goffa, impacciata Olive. Ma in realtà questo romanzo mi è piaciuto di più del primo!

In realtà la storia è la stessa. Due scienziati nemici si incontrano, si innamorano e avanti così. Peccato che sta volta non ci sono i prestavolto; non ci sono fanfiction di mezzo, ed è talmente nerd questo romanzo che l'ho divorato in un attimo e mi ha fatto ridere come non mai.

Ali Hazelwood, se cambiasse storie, sarebbe un'ottima scrittrice di rom-com. Manca ancora quel pizzico di originalità in più che farebbe distinguere TLH, da LOTB alle novelle (Loathe to Love You, in uscita in cartaceo nel 2023).

Ma è un'ottimo punto di partenza!

Ciao cari booklovers, come state? Oggi andremo a lavorare su "The Gilded Wolves" di Roshani Chokshi, libro che mi ha decisamente incantata!

TRAMA:

1889. L’Esposizione Universale ha immesso nuova linfa alla città di Parigi, ma ha anche portato alla luce antichi segreti. Nessuno conosce le oscure verità quanto Séverin Montagnet-Alarie, cacciatore di tesori e ricco albergatore. Il potentissimo ordine di Babel lo contatta per costringerlo ad aiutarli in una missione, e Séverin si trova così a inseguire un tesoro che mai avrebbe immaginato: la sua vera eredità.

RECENSIONE:

Siamo nel 1889, durante l'Esposizione Universale di Parigi (lo stesso anno in cui è stata inaugurata la Tour Eiffel). Severin, il nostro protagonista, viene reclutato da un misterioso ordine, l'ordine di Babel, per una missione, in cambio della scoperta sulla sua eredità. Severin infatti è un figlio illegittimo (di chi, non ve lo dirò) e ha dietro di sé una complicata storia familiare.

Il ragazzo si trova a reclutare un gruppo di compagni: Laila, il suo love interest, ballerina; Zofia, una specie di scienziata; Hypnos; Enrique e Tristan, il suo fratellastro. 

Tutto questo porta una somiglianza incredibile con Six of Crows, soprattutto nel momento in cui sono definiti "una banda di disadattati".

In realtà, è molto di più. Ogni ragazzo/a/x è costruito/a/x in modo tridimensionale, ha i suoi pregi e difetti, ma ciò che mi è piaciuto di più è che mi sono sembrati veri.

Per fare un paragone con un altro libro pieno di società segrete, The Atlas Six, posso dirvi solo che qui, in The Gilded Wolves, la Chokshi, a differenza della Blake, ha gestito magistralmente il trope della società segreta. Si vede che ha fatto molte ricerche (soprattutto sulla mitologia egizia - "occhi a cuoricino") e ha creato una storia decisamente interessante.

Attendete l'uscita del secondo, che è ancora più esplosivo!

RECENSIONE: 

Pensavo che peggio del secondo non poteva esserci... but here we are.

Avery Kylie Grambs non è una pura di cuore, ma è solo un'opportunista poco realista. Se io ricevessi 48 miliardi di dollari, come chiunque altro, non rifiuterei. Poi li dividerei, certo, ma non li rifiuterei.

Come qualsiasi persona sana del pianeta. Invece no, Avery Kylie vuole fare la buona samaritana, ed eccoci qui. Che senso ha avuto l'intera storia? Jameson è più insopportabile che mai, ma anche Grayson, mio personaggio preferito nei primi due, non scherza mica. Anzi.

Eve una vipera? Guarda, non me lo aspettavo nemmeno - "Facepalm".

Un finale davvero terribile. Il mistero inutile, i cattivi bidimensionali perché introdotti nell'ultimo libro e ben poco sviluppati.

Speriamo che le altre serie di questa autrice siano meglio.

RECENSIONE: 

Terribile. Che dire... Terribile.

Lo stile della Barnes, coinvolgente e leggero, è una delle poche cose che si salvano.

Una saga così promettente è stata rovinata da un'idea terribile. Facciamo il punto della situazione. Avery è stata rifiutata da Grayson, e quindi si avvicina ancora di più a Jameson, per quanto riguarda il lato romantico. Io preferisco Grayson a Jameson, nettamente, ma rimango dell'idea che Grayson abbia bisogno di terapia più che di una fidanzata.

Per il lato mystery, continuo a non capire come Avery sia stata scelta da Tobias per la sua eredità, e la Barnes lascia tutto velato. Inoltre, l'idea malsana della Barnes è che a quanto pare c'è in giro un clone di Emily Laughlin, Evelyn "Eve" Laughlin, la quale causerà scompiglio, lo so già, e che è... figlia di Toby Hawthorne.

Io non ci capisco niente. Getto la spugna.
